As of today ucom.ch is reachable via IPv6, the new network layer protocol on the Internet. Using dual stack technology, ucom.ch can be reached with IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time. The introduction of IPv6 is really important, as there are no IPv4 addresses left at IANA, the central IP address registry.

The Internet Society is hosting the World IPv6 Day on 8 June, 2011. Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight Networks will be amongst some of the major organisations that will offer their content over IPv6 for a 24-hour “test flight”. The goal of the Test Flight Day is to motivate organizations across the industry – Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies – to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out.

“After our premises got connected to IPv6 three months ago, we are happy that our website is now IPv6 enabled too, just in time for ISOC’s coming World IPv6 Day, says Bernie Hoeneisen, CEO of Ucom Standards Track Solutions GmbH. More information information on IPv6 you can find on Wikipedia’s article about IPv6.
